WELCOME TO THE
ALLIANCE FOR STRONG MEQUON-THIENSVILLE SCHOOLS
Welcome to
www.mtalliance.org
– the website for the Alliance for Strong Mequon
Thiensville Schools. Our group (ASMTS) started from a
realization that this school district, along with
districts across the state, is at serious risk of losing
many of the resources that make us a blue ribbon school
district. The root of the problem lies outside of our
immediate control – through outdated and incompatible
legislation (see the
FAQs for more
information on this issue). A group of parents who
share a commitment to maintaining public school
excellence joined together in January, 2005 to create an
advocacy group. The mission: to maintain public school
excellence; to advocate for our schools, our children,
our community; to provide our community with sound,
accurate information on legislative issues that impact
our schools.
The
Alliance for Strong Mequon Thiensville Schools is an
organization that is independent from the school
district. While we work closely with administrators and
school board members, we are not an extension of either
group.
As
the saying goes, “there is power in numbers”. As an
advocacy group, ASMTS partners with other advocacy
groups through out southeastern Wisconsin to form a
collective voice that can be heard in Madison.
We maintain an ongoing
dialogue with our legislators through letters and in
person meetings.
The
ASMTS follows legislation closely and mobilizes
community members to make phone calls or write letters
when legislation unfavorable to our schools is up for
debate or vote. At the same time, we work within our
community to increase understanding of how all Mequon
Thiensville residents and business benefit from a
strong, healthy school system.
Please check our site frequently for the latest
information on what’s going on and how you can help to
support our schools and our community.
Warmly,
Nanci Schiman
